I'm only on Instagram because I have a band. At some point, maybe I hate Instagram enough that I don't want to have a successful band any more, if having an Instagram is a prerequisite. Fuck it, I want off. It's not worth it. I hate what that app does to me.

What finally tipped me over the edge? Paris Hilton posted a pic of her family's Halloween costumes this year and people flipped out because she was Belle and her daughter was Chip. The implication is that Paris is so selfish that she made herself the princess at the expense of making her daughter a minor character. It's a maddening thought spiral:

  1. 1.

Did her daughter actually want to be Belle?

  2. 2.

Isn't Chip a beloved character from the film?

  3. 3.

Oh my god they're saying her daughter was dressed as Mrs. Potts, which is factually incorrect.

  4. 4.

Even if she was dressed as Mrs. Potts, is't that also a great character??

  5. 5.

None of our opinions matter. What matters is, what did Paris's daughter actually want to be for Halloween? (Spoiler: Paris says that yes, she wanted to be Chip)

  6. 6.

Isn't it fucked up to tell a child that Belle is fundamentally better and more important than Chip or Mrs. Potts? Especially if she wanted to be Chip.

  7. 7.

Paris's husband was the Beast. So now the brother has to be the beast? Who plays the canonically ugly love interest?

  8. 8.

Why on earth do any of you care what Paris Hilton is doing for Halloween?

  9. 9.

Why do I care? Why is this drama on my Instagram feed?

  10. 10.

What am I doing with my life?

Every time I post on Instagram, all I'm doing is creating free content for Mark Zuckerberg to profit from. In exchange I get what? Barely connected to my friends, mind-numbing entertainment and a constant flood of tabloid sludge I never signed up for.
